Safety Professionals and Risk Managers in the Public Sector may be responsible for protecting employees from the hazards of impulse noise, specifically from exposure during weapons fire in the training environment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there were over 1.7 million people employed in the Police and Security Service Industry in 2016. Efforts to reduce hearing loss from hazardous impulse noise in many ways have fallen behind the efforts to mitigate continuous noise. There are some misconceptions and some deaf spots, so this webinar will help clear the fog and assist you in your efforts to serve a population exposed to a hazard that can do permanent damage in one stroke.

    Wednesday, April 11, 2018 - Safety can be a tough sell. Even the word "safety" has negative connotations when we connect safety to terms like "investigation", "audit" and "disciplinary action." Yet, safety professionals, supervisors and operations managers must be able to sell safety up and down the organization. Convincing leaders that safety is important is not enough. Everyone including front line employees must understand the benefits of a safe operation. Tactics used to sell safety to leadership are different than the tactics used for front line employees. Selling is about influencing someone to do something we want them to do. It's about influencing employees to do more than follow procedures. We want them to be proactive in identifying and addressing hazards. We want them to be actively involved in creating a safe work environment. Session attendees will learn techniques for "selling" safety to front line employees including how to have a "Make Safety Personal" conversation.

  • Improving Human Performance and Safety

    Thursday, March 29, 2018 - There are two ways to improve performance: one is to enhance the performance itself (sing a better note, make a better weld). The second is to reduce unforced errors. There are four human factors that cause the majority of performance errors. If you're not moving they can cause quality problems or production problems. However, if you are moving, or things are moving around you, then these human factors can also cause eyes not on task, line-of-fire and balance, traction or grip errors, which dramatically increase the chance of injury. In this session, participants will learn which human factors cause the majority of performance errors, four critical error reduction techniques and the neuroscience behind them, as well as how to use these techniques to enhance performance thereby improving quality, production and safety, at the same time.
